利是 (Lei See) I love everything about Chinese New Year, aside from all the colorful decorations, good food and good times with friends and family, it’s 利是-Red Envelope. 利是is a monetary gift which is given during holidays or special occasions. These red envelopes are typically given by the married to the unmarried. The money was called 壓歲錢 (yāsuì qián), meaning “money warding off evil spirits”, and was believed to protect the elderly from sickness and death. Let’s keep the 利是 coming!
